Gabby, it was. The smack scene was worse. By the mud 90s I remember going back to someone's house after a free party, big room full of people and I was the only one not on smack so I smoked a spliff and left, was the beginning of the end for me.

You missed Clink St, The Dungeons, Schoom, Spectrum, Future, The nights at Heaven, The Astoria, The Milk Bar, Love at The Wag Club, Turnmills, Enter The Dragon, Crazy Larrys and a converted church on Shaftsbury Ave l, I think, was it called The Limelight?

Few good clubs in Nottm too, coachloads used to turn up from all over the Midlands & north, The Hippo, The Garage, The Cookie Club & Venus.

I've missed plenty too.

Yes we were very spoilt

Loved the M25/Oribtal raves but when it all became legit the club nights were still superb from the south coast to the city - especially mid 90s.

Off the top of my head - Sterns, Tonic @ Empire, Bagleys, Satellite @ Colosseum, SW1, The Cross, Leisure Lounge,The End, Wiggle nights, Paradise Club, Labyrinth, Gardening Club....we were spoilt for choice and I've missed loads.

There's next to fuck all nowadays.

Re: BBC 4 this Friday 2nd August - ACIEED 🤑
Preferred the early dodgy illegal raves in fields and warehouses around the M25 & East / North London.
Lots of good clubs though. Never went to the super clubs when it went mainstream, moved to Notts early 90s (until 2012) and got into the Free Party scene up there which was different but as good in other ways.

Re: BBC 4 this Friday 2nd August - ACIEED 🤑
The first rave i went was classic naivety!

I joined a small firm in Chiswick 1989 and a female colleage asked if i had ever been to a "do"?

Bought 4 tickets on the back of this intell and dragged 3 of ones able MATES to join me.

Was told to meet at Euston and followed the coaches...4 of us in a ford orion with 48 cans of lager in the boot.

Ended up at Didcot railway museum...

Entry was via an underground tunnel in to a massive siding.

Soon necked my first pill and before i had come up and not knowing what to expect, a mate and me decide to go back the through the tunnel, to the car to get at the beers in the boot.

As we are going through this tunnel, i start to come up on my first ever pill...at the same time as 2 old bill start appeoaching from the oppersite direct...a mix of joy, yet panic i shall never forget.

Naturally, got to the car, didn't know why we went there, then rembered the beer, which as you know, was a horrible taste when e'd up, so 46 cans of lager remainded in the boot..

Fast forward a bit and the same old bill we saw were now on the stage, the music was turned off and they announced the party was over.

They then (the old bill this is) stripped their uniforms off, said only joking and the music went back on....only twice as loud.

Hold tight.

thats is a fantastic story ;-)

Sterns was the place to be, had many a good night down there, surprised to see it closed in 98, fun times were already all over by then.
